What the Hell is AI?

Alright, let's cut the crap. You've been hearing 'AI this, AI that' for the last two years and you probably still don't know what the hell any of it actually means. That ends today.

AI - Artificial Intelligence - is software that can do things that normally require a human brain. Recognizing patterns, understanding language, making decisions, generating content. That's it. It's not Terminator. It's not magic. It's a really, really good tool.

The specific type of AI that's got everyone losing their minds right now is called an LLM - Large Language Model. An LLM is basically a massive neural network that was trained on a shitload of text from the internet. It learned patterns in language so well that it can now generate new text that sounds like a human wrote it.

Think of it like this: if you read every book ever written, every website, every email, every article - you'd get pretty damn good at writing too. That's essentially what these models did, except they processed it all in a way that lets them generate responses to anything you ask.

The two big dogs you need to know right now are ChatGPT (made by OpenAI) and Claude (made by Anthropic). There are others, and we'll cover them. But these two are your starting lineup.
