Week 5
Automation: The Real Money Move
Why work harder when you can work... not at all?
Alright, here's where shit gets exciting. Automation is taking repetitive tasks and making them happen without you lifting a finger. And with AI in the mix, even complex tasks can be automated.
Let's talk about the two big no-code automation platforms you need to know:
Zapier - Think of it as the universal translator between apps. Gmail talks to Google Sheets which talks to Slack which talks to your CRM. You create 'Zaps' - automated workflows triggered by events. 'When I get an email with an attachment, save it to Google Drive and notify me in Slack.' Free tier gives you 5 Zaps and 100 tasks/month.
Make.com (formerly Integromat) - Similar to Zapier but more visual and more powerful for complex workflows. You build 'scenarios' by connecting modules on a canvas. It's like drawing a flowchart that actually runs. Free tier gives you 2 scenarios and 1,000 operations/month.
Here's why this matters for you specifically: In construction and development, there's a SHITLOAD of repetitive admin work. RFI tracking, daily reports, submittals, email follow-ups, lead management, document filing. Every one of these can be partially or fully automated.
Imagine: someone submits an RFI through a form. It automatically gets logged in a spreadsheet, the relevant team member gets notified, a response template gets generated by AI, and a follow-up reminder gets scheduled. All without you doing anything. THAT is automation.
